These image-stabilized telephoto zoom photography lenses are not just great for blurry backgrounds or shooting events from a distance.

They might also be used to photograph spectacular facial close ups from creative angles above or below the subject that don’t exhibit the standard distortions of large chins or shrinking heads which come from wider photography lenses.

Another benefit of this kind of photography lenses is that you can use the small-sensor camera’s 1.5x crop factor to your favor. The 200/2.8 long end of the standard zoom effectively becomes 300/2.8, a lens that would cost $4000 for a full frame camera. The effective 300 mm length enables more creative photograph angles than shorter photography lenses, such as tightly cropped pictures of the groom’s hands lifting the bride’s veil or bride and groom’s hands when they put rings on each others fingers.

The obvious downside of image-stabilized telephoto zooms is that in so many cases, long photography lenses tend to detach the subject from the main scene and there could be virtually no context as to why the subject might have had expressed how they’re feeling, the location of the subject and who else was there.

While using a small sensor camera as your primary or backup body, the other disadvantage of image-stabilized telephoto zoom lenses is that neither Nikon, Canon or Sony make an f/2.8 lens that gives you an effective 70-200 mm focal length. So, you would need to pay the high price and carry the weight of photography lenses made for a full frame camera.

Canon’s Image-Stabilization, Nikon’s Vibration-Reduction and Sony’s SteadyShot INSIDE systems are important in allowing you to hand hold these large and heavy long photography lenses, particularly in low light situations. Each and every wedding photographer should ensure that the image stabilization and vibration-reduction features are available on their long lenses.

You might also need to think about using a tripod to guarantee continuous, accurate subject positioning and sharp pictures. Such telephoto zoom photography lenses are great investments and if you have a budget constraint or a beginner only starting out, you might want to consider rental instead.

Prime Lenses
Prime lenses are primarily photography lenses with set focal lengths, instead of zoom lenses, which have variable focal lengths of say .24-70 mm or 17-55 mm. Prime lenses generally have a much better optical quality than zoom photography lenses, and usually come with wider maximum apertures such as f/2.8 or f/1.8.

Good prime lenses are must-have photography lenses for any wedding photographer, because they are outstanding for taking good portraits. Although you will be appropriately outfitted for a wedding shoot with the three zoom lenses in your lens kit as mentioned above, it is worth including two to three fast prime lenses in your bag as well. These photography lenses are tiny, light-weight, and pretty affordable and would probably be needed in about 10-20% of a wedding shoot.

Faster prime photography lenses are perfect in situations where f/2.8 aperture isn’t enough to get the motion-stopping shutter speed or shallow depth of field wanted, whether for artistic or technical reasons. For instance, a picture which requires a 1/20th of a second shutter speed at f/2.8 will just require 1/60th of a second at f/1.8, forming a distinction between a sharp image and a blurry one.

A lot of professional wedding photographers actually include prime lenses in their gig bags as an inexpensive back-up to their zoom lenses. Not lots of people could afford to purchase an additional 70-200 mm f/2.8 telephoto lens as a back-up and you also want to prevent a frantic condition whereby your photography lens fails on you during a crucial moment.

There are lots of prime lenses out there but most photographers would include a 28/1.8, 50/1.8, and 85/1.8 in their key photography lenses kit to use on a full frame body. The 28 mm is wide enough to cover most ceremony locations and confined spaces, the 50mm is best for small groups or a priest blessing a couple, and the 85 mm is of sufficient length for ceremony vows and exchange of rings. A wedding can be successfully photographed with just these 3 photography lenses.

When you make a well informed choice on the right photography lenses to use, it’ll surely raise your wedding photography to a more professional level.

Much has already been written about the best camera angles and positions to use in photography to best capture a subject. Camera angles are critical in determining where a camera will be placed to take a shot. Through the prudent choice of camera angle, the best possible shots can be achieved.

There are three standard camera angles, which, depending on how the camera is positioned, can affect the outcome of a shot: eye-level and shots that are both high and low. The most commonly used angles of the three are the high and low shots. If one is just starting out as a photographer, the best angle to shoot from is eye-level.

Through the use of various camera angles shots, a photographer tells a story that can be seen as having both aesthetic and psychological value. The photographer can determine the outcome of the story depending on which angles are used for the shot and what emphasis is put on the subject. As an example, if choosing to use a low-angle shot for the subject, it will create a special effect that elongates the image.

Ultimately, camera angles don’t tell the whole story; the different camera angles a photographer chooses tell the story from that vantage point only. Think of a story told from the first-person point of view. Much information is taken in from that viewpoint, but other points of view are ignored. So it is the same when choosing camera angles.

Therefore, in choosing camera angles, a photographer must determine how best to portray the subject. Remember that while the human eye processes images in three dimensions, the camera con only capture them in two dimensions. It is therefore up to the skill of the photographer to best determine how to portray the subject in the best light using only the two dimensions available to him. That is where camera angles can be a photographer’s best friend.

While there are many considerations in determining the best multiple camera angles to use, there are some basic tips to ensure first-rate camera shots:

1. Points of Interest
Stories are told through the lens of the camera and ultimately through the outcome of the shot. As is the case, points of interest is the basic factor all photographers need to master.

Once a photographer has chosen the focus point of the subject or scene to be shot, the angles chosen will then help in conveying what type of emotion the photographer is trying to elicit from the picture. A good photograph will draw viewers’ attention and compel them to study and draw meaning from the picture.

1. Lighting
Is a key element to get the best angles in any camera shot. Lighting gives the subject, or scene, being shot meaning. When shooting a subject (dog, boy, tree, etc.), the chosen lighting for the shot can alter both the way it looks and the mood or atmosphere the photographer is trying to convey.

In the end, camera angles may seem simple enough, yet angles chosen by the photographer have a dramatic effect on how the picture turns out and thus are extremely important.
